| CHSRA District 8 2011- 2012 Season Newsletter HighLights- January 2012 THINGS TO KNOW…………. We are looking for a volunteer to become our rodeo secretary for next year. Being the rodeo secretary is a rewarding way to help out at the rodeos without getting any guacamole or dirt on your hands. It is the only office job in America that lacks monotony and cubicles. If you are interested we ask that you contact Scott Kruse, our president (your email). Computer knowledge and Microsoft Excel knowledge would be helpful. But even if you have little experience, come with an open mind and it is a job that can be easily learned. You will work along side other volunteers with much experience and the common goal of helping the members of CHSRA District 8. Jo Ellen Seick, one of our previous secretaries will work with you for the remainder of the year to give you a jump start into being the best rodeo secretary this side of the Colorado. Raffle Tickets All members must sell CHSRA Raffle tickets. These are due in January at the Brawley rodeo, no exceptions! 15 tickets for high school members and 7 tickets for Jr. High. Sponsorships Each member is required to secure a sponsorship. High School requires $100.00, Jr. High requires $50.00. The sponsorship forms are online and included in this news. These sponsorships are due at the January rodeo. Sponsorships can come in any monetary amount to complete the total required or a larger amount. Our sponsorship program offers tax donation letters and advertising in all District 8 publications and on the webpage. If you bring in a saddle sponsor we can place a banner in the arenas we rodeo in as well. Report Cards It is your responsibility to send your report card to the membership secretary. Every time you receive a report card, copy it and send it to Jana Muth, 30260 Los Alamos Road Murrieta, CA 92563. Later in the year you will be required to send a report card when entering Challenge or State Finals so making a copy will save you time. Thank you Sponsors We already have some returning and new sponsors for the new year! Thank you, Bonny Holt, Hemet Valley Pipe and Supply, The Nicholas Fund at The San Diego Foundation. This will be an R4R double pointed roping! Save the date and tell your friends! This will be a great benefit for District 8. Rule Clarifications: We need all parents and students to read the rulebook. We had some specific areas we want to address from the last rodeo: No schooling your horse during your run. It is unfortunate when your horse makes a mistake on the pattern but it is inappropriate for you to continue or school your horse. We have many contestants and a long day, leave the arena and work on this at home.NO TALKING TO THE JUDGE! This is absolutely mandatory. We must abide by the chain of command. If you have a problem you must first go to your student event director. NEVER talk to a judge. No 2 girls may ride the same horse in poles or barrels. NO SHARING HORSES, in any go. Pushers may not come out of the front of the chute when pushing cattle. You can only push to the threshold of the chute opening. No twisting tails when pushing cattle. You may only use your hands on the body of the cattle. Two minute rule for entering the gate. When your name is called after the arena is ready you have 2 minutes to get into the gate for poles and barrels. If you cannot get your horse into the arena safely in that amount of time you must be turned out. Work on this at home and at the jackpots. If your horse might have a problem, make a plan and notify the event director so you can get the help you need and not be turned out.Last, please read the rule book and your California Policy and Bylaws you received in your membership packet at the rodeo. These are filled with important information that will help you be more successful and avoid some frustrating situations. Remember these rules are mandated by a State organization that is a charter of a National Organization. We must enforce them and ensure each contestant is safe and has the same opportunities as the others.
